From Suspect To Prospect

Documentary Introduction
Over the course of the years since slavery, black musicians, writers and actors have played a major role in ending segregation and racism in America. There are so many aspects of racism that will shock, baffle, and even alarm you. We interviewed George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic (P-Funk band), blog talk co-host and author Wakeel Allah and Actor R Marcos Taylor, who stars as Suge Knight in 'Straight Outta Compton' and were amazed at what we heard about many black entertainers and their connections, opinions, and attachments to white fans.

From suspects to prospects, we never would have guessed how fearlessly devoted fans are to black musicians, writers and actors within showbiz. While you may think you know everything there is to know about blacks, what you’ll soon find out will surprise you.

We followed fans of some of these artists on social media and discovered that their love for these musicians, writers and actors runs deep—and that to them these artists are more than a mere skin color or a dress code.

As you watch this theatrical documentary film, prepare to learn more than you ever wanted to know about the black entertainment culture America has developed over the past few years. Centered around an ex-drug dealer turned musician, author and actor, From Suspect To Prospect, written and produced by Adrian Collins is a one-man show inspired by his first nonfiction book written in 2007.

You may be asking yourself when judging a book by its cover became a frenzy of skin color, dress codes, and being diverse. After viewing this documentary you’ll finally have some answers.

Are black people born suspects? To avoid being judged and possibly killed, are black people forced to dress like a prospect and not like a suspect?

From Suspect To Prospect local playwright Adrian "A-G" Collins shows that spite what you going through God is only using you. Meet A-G, a street hustler serving 4 years in (Rahway) East Jersey State Prison.

A-G, just 2 months after being released from the halfway house, gets shot 5 times the first month and finds himself serving 4 more years the second month. While in Lockup and down on his luck, A-G has a spiritual awakening which inspires him to start planning for his future release, however, one of those plans ends up changing his life forever.

STAGE PLAY REVIEWS:

It was a very creative play and I liked the creativity. It enlightened me on the fact of having fact and the faith is tested, like those several letters Adrian received in prison. I thought it was really great - Trustee Gaylen, at Faith Hope and Deliverance Temple.

I had to personally shake brother Adrian hand at the end of this Gospel Concert. He opened up his life and shared some personal stuff. He really needs to get this story out there to the world, because I think it will bless so many People - Pastor A, Edgerton, at Faith Hope and Deliverance Temple.

From Suspect To Prospect:
Life and Times of Adrian Collins

Growing up in the rough streets of Plainfield, NJ, Adrian (aka A-G) has seen almost everything but his maker. Life as he knew it was all about selling drugs, robbing, fighting and shooting guns. Brought up in a dysfunctional household, Adrian met the street game at an early age. Spending most of his time in-and-out of jail, Adrian went from selling drugs on the corner to manufacturing crack. While serving four years on Drug Court and still living the street life is when Adrian was shot five times from behind by two masked gunmen and left for dead. When Drug Court violated him for being associated with a street gang, in 2006 they sentenced him to five years in New Jersey State Prison. After being on a third grade reading and writing level at the age of 21, Adrian decided he needed to enhance his education which inspired him to start planning for his future release. That was when he created ten plans to stay out of jail, however, one of those plans which were to write just one book, it turned into three books in 4 months in 2007.

  1. Definitely a unique view in the world of hustling and it takes it to a whole new level. At first I didn't know what to expect when presented with a list of chess pieces all being represented by characters. Being a chess player, I understood the theories and philosophies the game teaches its disciples. This is a unique story of how a young man named Jason turns his life around by using the strategies of chess in the real world. Strategies that were taught to him behind bars from a grandmaster. Jason is no longer on an erratic path of destruction but now has a strategical plan to follow which will bring him success.

Can't imagine how things will unfold because even though both players have the same amount of pieces, there are various styles of playing chess.
